  • Ensure that there is .ND file in the folder.

  • Click on the Windows Start menu.
  • Open File Explorer and fetch the folder that contains your company file.
  • Fetch your company file, and it must look in the format of your “company name.qbw”.
  • Right-click on your company file and copy it.
  • On your Windows Desktop, right-click on an empty space and paste it. Now, you have your company file.

If you keep your company file on a Linux Server.

Step 1: Configure your Linux server

  • Launch the Linux Database Server Manager on your server.
  • Configure your Database Server Manager.
  • Configure the directory in the Initord.conf file.
  • Launch QuickBooks Enterprise on your host computers.

Confirm if you would be able to function with your company file. If you are able to do so, congratulations, the QB error 6000 -83 is fixed. If not, try step 2.

Step 2: Configure your host file

  • You need to ping your server computer so that you can get your server name and IP address:
  • Click on the Windows Start menu and type CMD in the search field.
  • Open the Command and type Ping + Name of your Linux server in Windows.
  • Now, hit Enter and note down the server name and the IP address.
  • Now, you can edit the host files. You need to ensure that every PC that is connected to your server has the correct IP address and Linux server name.
  • Firstly, close all the QuickBooks programs on all your PCs that are connected to your network.
  • Click on the File menu.
  • Select Quit QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Click on the Windows Start menu and type File Explorer in the search box.
  • Open the File Explorer and choose My Computer or This PC (depends) from the navigation bar.
  • Open your C: drive and then the Windows folder.
  • Fetch the System32 folder and open the Drivers folder.
  • Now, open the ETC folder and right-click on the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.
  • Click on Open with and launch Notepad.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the file and add the Linux server IP address at the end of the text.
  • Now, press the Tab key and here also add your Linux server name.

Note:- Files in Linux systems are case sensitive. Ensure to enter your names with the correct case.

  • Click on File and select Save.
  • Finally, quit Notepad.
  • Launch QuickBooks Desktop and open your company file.
